ABOUT ME
Michelle Hoskins, MA, LPC
My name is Michelle. I am a caring and compassionate person who enjoys helping individuals see their true potential.
I started to recognize my passion of helping others could be a career during my undergraduate studies at UMKC. I started college studying pre-law and quickly realized that while the law is so important so are the people being affected by the law. I saw a great need to help individuals who were suffering and did not know where to turn. I received my bachelors degree in Psychology from UMKC in 2011 as well as a minor in Spanish. I went on to continue my graduate studies at UMKC, graduating in 2014 with a masters degree in Counseling & Guidance.
From here I focused my practice to not only general mental health but also working with individuals with eating disorders and disordered eating. I started in a private practice setting while also working as part of an eating disorder IOP, providing meal and group therapy. I felt a calling in 2017 to build a stronger clinical foundation and so moved on to gain experience in the mental health inpatient setting. Through this work my compassion for eating disorders grew and in late 2017 began working as part of an eating disorder PHP and IOP program. What drives me most to work within an eating disorder setting is the vast complexity that goes into treating someone with an eating disorder. I enjoy working with medical professionals and learning from dietitians as part of the therapeutic approach.
Of course, while working with individuals with eating disorders I also continued to gain experience in working with anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, PTSD and many other general mental health diagnoses. Through these experiences I feel confident that I can help people reach their full potential and find peace within themselves. I have a gentle, non-judgmental approach and my hope is that anyone I work with feels comfortable and like they are able to open up and share easily.
Outside of my career I am a mom, animal lover and DIY hobbyist. My greatest joy and passion in life comes from my twin girls. They truly light up my life each day. I am also a pug dog fanatic and enjoy traveling. My favorite place to travel is definitely the northern central coast of California.
I hope to work with you soon!
